About Grandma’s Kidz Childcare Center
Grandma’s Kidz Childcare Center, a full-day child care center, is a North Carolina LLC, directed and run by Michealyn Janiga and Michealene Zaccarine. A mother-daughter combination that can be compared to no other.
Michealene Zaccarine had been in the early childhood field for the past 40 years. After she purchased the preschool her daughter attended in New York, she relocated it to the South Wales Presbyterian Church where she proceeded to run it for 15 years.
She attended Trocaire College, a Catholic College in Buffalo, New York, and earned her associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education all while she raised her family of 5 children that included two foster children with Down’s Syndrome. After she relocated to Virginia she taught High School and worked in an Early Childhood Education vocational program. Her curriculum was split between classroom instruction and lab time where her high school students helped create a program for neighboring preschool-aged children in an Even Start Center at the school. When this program closed, she coordinated with the elementary schools in her district to have her high school students brought over to assist in the Pre-kindergarten classes. She attended several conferences each year and toured local preschool programs to learn as much as she could about Early Childhood Education. She has since retired and now spends a few days a week helping at the daycare.
Michaelyn Janiga started her career at the State University of New York College at Buffalo, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Exceptional Education. After teaching emotionally disturbed children for 3 years, she changed her focus and started teaching children with Autism. After receiving her Master’s in Educational Administration, she continued teaching special education for a total of 7 years. It was at this time she decided to have children of her own and wanted to put her time and effort into raising her children. Her family relocated to Harrisburg, NC where she was a stay-at-home mom 4 years prior to opening the daycare. She was the director of the daycare for 12 years. Michaelyn now holds a Level III North Carolina Early Childhood Administrative credential.
